Pioneering the Oil Aeration Testing Method in Lubricants: We offer affordable oil aeration testing for screening the air entrainment properties of an oil, for a large number of sample candidates.
15+ Years of Perfecting Oil Aeration Testing
Decades of expertise led to a breakthrough. With over 35 years in lubrication engineering, we launched the Optical Imaging of Liquids for Particles and Aeration System (OILPAS) in 2010, setting a new benchmark in fluid analysis. By 2014, our research uncovered something game-changing: aeration is not just contamination, it’s a defining characteristic of oil performance.
To study it, we created a system that simulates real-world component operation, impelling air into the oil under identical conditions, showing how different formulations behave. Working alongside OEMs, oil producers, and additive developers, we transformed this insight into our unique aeration tester, now an industry tool for developing better-performing lubricants.

What We Do
Oil aeration is a critical yet often overlooked factor that affects mechanical operation. That’s why we developed a breakthrough solution: By means of the Oilpas™ oil imaging technology we accurately measure dispersed air within lubricating fluids. This advanced method delivers precise, repeatable, and insightful measurements of oil aeration characteristics. With our oil aeration testing service, engineers and formulators can evaluate and refine lubricants through faster, more accurate, and cost-effective testing leading to optimized fluid formulations. The result: better-performing lubricants, longer-lasting components.
How We Do It
Using a constant injection of air and impelling high energy into the fluid, we create a windage that simulates the one formed in a mechanical component operating at high speed. Air is constantly and forcefully trained and released in an oil sample, simulating the oil sump or tank of a mechanical system, a transmission, engine, compressor, hydraulic, etc. Under steady state operation we then measure the volume of bubbles scattered by the fluid as a characteristic of the fluid being tested. The testing method is valid and repeatable for evaluating oil aeration, air entrainment, air release, and with good correlation to mechanical testing
